Ricci got her first recognition and appreciation as a child actor for her performance as Wednesday Addams in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) and also for her character in the film Kat Harvey in Casper (1995). Ricci transitioned to roles for adults in The Ice Storm (1997), followed by a praised role in The Opposite of Sex (2000) for which she was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Actress. Sleepy Hollow (1999), Monster (2003) and other well-received films further developed her career.
